The BHIM (Bharat Interface for Money) app is a digital payment app designed by NPCI (National Payment Corporation of India). The purpose of the app is to facilitate cashless payments post-demonetization so that the dream of ‘Digital India’ can be fulfilled. This app is available for Android as well as for iOS users. We have mentioned 11 things about the BHIM app, everyone must know:
1. You can use the services without internet
In the beginning, the Internet and smartphones were mandatory to transfer money through the BHIM App but to fulfill the purpose of the app; now it is possible to take advantage of the service of this app without any Internet connection. For this, you need to dial * 99# from your registered mobile number with the bank providing you have enabled the USSD in your app installed on your Smartphone. To enable the USSD, you can follow this path:
- Login to the BHIM app
- Go to ‘Profile’
- Click on ‘three dots’ on the top right corner of the app
- A pop-up will be shown
- Click on the ‘Settings’
- You will find the tick option for ‘*99# service’
- Enable it.
2. Pay your bills
With the BHIM app, you can pay your bills online and add a biller to automatically pay for any services used.
You can make the following bill payments:
- Broadband postpaid
- DTH
- Electricity
- Gas
- Landline Postpaid
- Mobile Postpaid
- Water
3. Request money from your contacts
BHIM app gives you the facility to request money from any person in your contacts, or you can also ask money by entering the UPI ID. If the requested person finds your request valid, he/she can pay it immediately just by approving it. This system of request money is beneficial for merchants as they can request money from the customers and receive it instantly.
- Login to the BHIM app
- Click on ‘Request Money’
- Choose the Contact or enter the UPI ID
4. Pay instantly to the new beneficiary
Unlike other payment methods, the BHIM app allows you to pay immediately to the newly added Beneficiary.
5. Scan the QR code and make payments
BHIM app allows you to make or receive payments by scanning the QR code. If you want to collect money by scanning the QR Code, you can directly download your QR code by following this path in your BHIM app:
- Click on Profile.
- Click on Download just below the QR code on the right.
Merchants can print this QR code to receive payments from the customers.
6. Change your default bank account anytime
One main drawback of the BHIM app is, you can only add one bank account with the app. But to make things easy, it allows you to change your default account anytime (the registered mobile number should be the same with a newly registered account). To change the bank account:
- Login to the BHIM app.
- Go to ‘Bank Account’.
- Click on the ‘three dots’ on the top right corner of the page
- A pop-up will open, where you will get the option to change the account.
- Change the account by clicking on the ‘Change Account’.
- Select the New Bank Name.
7. Send money to the contacts
BHIM app allows you to send money to your contacts, saved UPI IDs and by adding the beneficiary by providing the receiver’s bank account number, name, and IFSC.
8. Get rewards
To increase the reach of the BHIM App, the ‘Refer and Earn’ program was launched, in which both merchants and customers can avail of this program.
You can invite your friends or family members by sharing the UPI ID by following this path:
- Login to the BHIM app.
- Go to Profile.
- Click on Share just below the QR code on the left side.
- You can also refer a friend by clicking on the three dots at the top right corner of the app and inviting a friend by clicking on the ‘Refer a friend ‘3rd last option.
Rewards
- The person who refers will get Rs. 25 (earlier this amount was Rs. 10, but after 14 August 2018, it has been increased to Rs. 25 per referral).
- First-time users will also get Rs. 25 as a referral benefit.
Conditions
- To get the referral benefits, the new user must be entirely new. The user must be using the mobile number or bank account for the first time to send money through BHIM.
- A referee should make at least three transactions of at least an amount of Rs. 50.
- The referral code should be entered during the first transaction, because if it is not used during the first transaction, then the 1st condition is not fulfilled.
9. 13 languages
To increase its reach, the BHIM app is available in 13 regional languages: Hindi, English, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Bengali, Odia, Kannada, Punjabi, Assamese, Marathi, and Gujarati. Recently, Urdu was also added to make transactions.
10. Send a payment reminder
BHIM app allows you to send a payment reminder to receive the payment that has been delayed by the other person. You can send this payment reminder to your contacts, UPI Id as well as to the beneficiary.
Use this path to use this feature:
- Login to the BHIM app
- Click on the ‘three dots’ on the top right corner of the page
- A pop-up will open, where you will get the option to ‘Payment Reminder’
- Click on the Payment Reminder
11. Download the QR code for printing purpose
With the BHIM pay service, a merchant does not need to spend anything extra on digital payments or apply for a POS machine. Merchants can download the QR code for printing purposes and use the free services of the BHIM app to receive payments through smartphones.
